New Taipei City’s cleanliness contest gives out more than ten million dollars

The 2011 New Taipei City cleanliness contest’s award ceremony is held in the morning on December 30th, where Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu praises publicly about the cleanest 328 neighborhoods within the city.

 

Mayor Chu also adds that New Taipei City is also the first place in the nation to be the cleanest; what’s more, the competition is fiercer this year in that it’s the first time it’s held after the promotion of five cities in Taiwan including New Taipei City. That is, winning this competition means something difficult and almost impossible. If it wasn’t for everyone’s effort and time, we couldn’t have made it, Mayor Chu puts.


 

He also says that in order to encourage every neighborhood to participate, 1032 in total in New Taipei City, there will be another “Environmental-friendly Challenge Contest” in the future where public bathrooms and garbage recycling are examined for their cleanliness and effectiveness.

 

This year’s contest consists of three groups and are opened for free participation, with scholars review and grade each place based on its cleanliness, inspiration, educational promotion, and attendance of volunteers. There are 328 neighborhoods wining this time, among them 371 get the honorary medals including 14 excellent examples, 22 good examples within the city, 7 creative awards for good neighborhood administrators, and top three awards for each district within the city, adds by Department of Environmental Protection. In addition, there are 516 neighborhoods that get the titles for good performance, which will get $15,000NTD compared with $150,000NTD for the top prize this time. Some winners include Shahow Neighborhood in Banchiao District, and Genheu Neighborhood in Zhengheu District, getting the awards for the best and most creative neighborhoods within the city.
