Ever Beautiful Tamsui Cross-River Bridges Lighted up at New Year’s Night

The two Mayors of Taipei City and New Taipei City lighted up 14 cross-river bridges at New Year’s Night at Tamsui River. New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu in his address credited former Taipei County Mayor and New Taipei City Council for their support to finish constructions of two bridges in New Taipei City and twelve cross-river bridges, constructed in joint effort with Taipei City Government to connect the twin Taipei Cities. He said the decoration of the bridges is intended for glorifying the culture and history along the Tamsui riverside and representing a milestone for the new year of 2012.

Mayor Chu recounted several beautiful cross-river bridges and the well-appreciated histories and cultures they provide in various advanced countries he had visited: Manhattan rivers in New York, River Thames in London, River Seine in Paris, Han River in Korea, etc. After many improvement works in the past, as he claimed, Tamsui River had gotten rid of its stench and its cross-river bridges function just like the alluded bridges as the connection between citizens living in two different cities.

Mayor Chu then explained that all 14 cross-river bridges were decorated by using energy-preserving LED lights differently to demonstrate characteristics of each bridge. Through theses LED light decorations, the City Government intended to make these bridges become a night spectacular beyond normal transportation infrastructures. New Taipei City Government in the future would also like to make 6 to 7 more LED light-decorated bridges cross the Keelung River, marking a milestone for the improvement of New Taipei City.

Taipei City Mayor Hau remarked that the light-decoration project for the 14 bridges suits well for the need of urban development and symbolizes the traditional practice of “lighting up eternal flame and lanterns of peace” by Taiwanese people. By lighting up the bridges, he wished the citizens in the Big Taipei Metropolis Area a peaceful and bright future.

The lighting-up of bridges attracted many citizens to the event site to watch beautiful night scene at Tamsui River.
