Mayor Chu cheers entrants of National Go Championship

 The annual National Go Championship kicked off at Banqiao Gymnasium today. New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu attended the opening ceremony to cheer all entrants. He said Go is a perfect game for youngsters to develop strong memory, clear logic, and good manners and he was happy to see so many young Go players gather together today.


According to Chu, many Taiwanese Go players having been successful on international level were also successful in the National Go Championship. With the effort from New Taipei City Sports Federation, he believed more experienced Go players would sprout up and shine on international stages in the future.


Board Chairman of New Taipei City Sports Federation, Mr. Hwang said Taiwanese Go players have been having great records in international games. He wished through holding the annual National Go Championship more children and youths could be interested in the sport and possibly become successful players in the future.

 

According to New Taipei City Sports Federation, entrants for this year’s Go championship total a history-high 1800. These entrants came from all around the country and were considered the strongest generation since the past. The federation also commented Go is the perfect brain-training game for children to develop their abilities on logic, reasoning, memory, imagination, and calculation.


Legislator Lin Hongchi also attended today’s event as a guest.
