Mayor Chu visits Zhao Guoliang, the model father
On the eve of Father’s Day, New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu visited this year’s model father of New Taipei City, Zhao Guoliang, to give congratulations. The 84-year-old Mr. Zhao was known for sparing no pains raising his 4 stepchildren and being constantly active in volunteer service. Mayor Chu acknowledged the extraordinary contribution by Mr. Zhao and praised that he is the veritable model father.
A retired soldier emigrating from Hebei, China, Mr. Zhao married his wife, Mrs. Lin, in Taiwan and raised 5 children under stringent financial conditions. All his 5 children have now become successful in their own businesses. He and his wife have also been volunteering in their community and local library for a very long time. All these efforts and achievements in addition to his enthusiasm for volunteering and sense of responsibilities are the reason why Mr. Zhao won the model father award for this year.
When Mayor Chu arrived at Zhao’s house, he thanked Zhao for his years-long contribution to his family and community. He said Mr. Zhao have shown incredible efforts and tenacity to come such a long way. See how successful Zhao’s children have been, Chu also praised Mrs. Lin’s exceptional efforts in supporting her family, which was nodded in agreement by Mr. Zhao. “She should be the one winning the award,” said Mr. Zhao.
The three generations of Zhao’s family had their reunion today to celebrate receiving of the award. When Mr. Zhao’s eldest daughter, Jiahui, talked about her father, she said Mr. Zhao has always been profuse in his warmth and caring and never treated her differently because they share no blood tie. For this year, she planned to bring Mr. Zhao to Kaohsiung with her family to have a wonderful Father’s Day.
Before leaving Zhao’s house, Mayor Chu didn’t forget to take a picture with family. Seeing the Zhao’s family as an inspirational model, he would like to remind people to cherish their family time and wish everyone a happy Father’s Day.
