Mayor Chu: Public safety is a city-wide affair

The New Taipei City Police Department hosted the “2011 Crime Prevention Campaign Fair” at Bali Left Bank today (7/23). The objective of the campaign is to elevate citizen’s awareness about preventing fraud, theft, drugs and robbery through interactions, FAQ, and games. New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu and Deputy Mayor You-Yi Hou attended the event.

“The fair is to serve as advocacy of crime prevention, displaying police morale, and allows the police personnel’s family to have fun” Mayor Chu stated during his speech. “Last but not least, the fair is to emphasize that public safety is a city-wide affair, and improvement will require all citizen’s awareness.”

Police Department Commissioner Yong-Ren Yi said New Taipei City police has been all out on crime fighting, and will be strengthening on crime prevention. They will be working towards the goal of “Fine Police, Safe Community”. He also calls for active crime reporting from residents, and expressed that police-resident collaboration will positively reinforce public safety.

The fair design and planning is different from previous year. Several other city hall department booths were added in the fair. The Fire Department’s smoke experience zone for example, allows participants to experience and learn how to escape a smoky building.

The fair showcased Police Band performance, tactic drills by SWAT, and also invited celebrities including Whatcentury, YOYO Family. Xin-Pei Ji, and Hao-Zhe Wu.

There are more than 50 booths of games, interactions and advocacy. Lottery draws include prizes like 32’ LCD television, Geared bicycle, and driving recorder to ensure a great afternoon for all attendees.
