New Taipei City leads to beat economic depression

 Economy, public security, creative industries, woman and child policy, and retired civil servant year-end bonus were the focus during the New Taipei City Council meeting on 8th of November. Mayor Eric Chu was appealing the central government to cooperate with local governments against the global recession. Chu also addressed a few concerns from the public regarding the construction of both Taiwan Movie and Culture Center and Greater Taipei New Theater. Chu promised that both projects, BOT-oriented, would proceed on schedule.

Several KMT councilors hoped the city government to take actions to beat the recession. In response, Mayor Chu said that the central government should work with local governments to pull each other out of recession. New Taipei City should take the lead on economic recovery.

The city council acknowledged both Mayor’s financial expertise and city government""s achievement in the past years. Residents were thankful for several efforts from the city government, including the public day care, newborn assistance, and student security network system. Chu promised to continue to make the city a better home for women, children, and students.

Councilor Huanglin Linlin wondered whether the construction of both Taiwan Movie and Culture Center and Greater Taipei New Theater could be launched on time. Chu said that he had discussions with Minister of Culture Lung Yingtai, and they agreed to put both BOT-oriented projects on schedule. The Department of Information would coordinate the construction for the center, and the Department of Culture Affairs would be responsible for the theater construction.

Furthermore, Mayor indicated that both Taiwan Movie and Culture Center in Xinzhuang and Cloud Media Center in Linkou, offering entertainments for residents, would be the important cities for culture and creative development. The BOT-oriented project would attract investments from enterprises, offer business opportunities, and create job openings.

In regard to the retired civil servant year-end bonus issue, Chu said that the year-end bonus for this year was given out already. He promised that retired civil servants would continue to receive the bonus next year if the policy from the central government remained the same.

Chu emphasized that due to the economy recession, he and the city government would work harder and make this winter easier for every residents.
