Thousands attend New Taipei City International Street Dance Competition

 The New Taipei City International Street Dance Competition took place on November 10th at Station Plaza of Banqiao. The winners for Breaking Battle, Hiphop Battle, Freestyle, and Cypher are Bboyworld Team, Subway & Da Rumors, PHD, and Malu respectively. Awards and prize were presented by Mayor Chu at the end of the event.

Chu said that young people are assets for the city, and he encouraged them to be innovative. The city government would like to offer space and venues such as the Station Plaza of Banqiao for organizing events.

The Cultural Affairs Department indicated that 36 teams from the preliminary qualification round were selected from North, Central, and South Taiwan. The competition were divided into Breaking Battle, Hip-Hop Battle, and Free Style. In addition, teams from the United States, France, Japan, and South Korea were invited for a specific competition category - Breaking. Onsite registration for Cypher were also opened to the public in the afternoon.

The Banqiao District Office said that even though none of top four teams in the International Breaking Battle were from Taiwan, it’s still a valuable experience to compete against foreign teams without travelling overseas.

Moreover, 20 competitors rapped about their dreams and belief on the stage while battling for the top prize of the freestyle rap contest. Top 10 awarded posterboard from the graffiti contest were presented at the scene including the 3D version of “New Taipei Rapping Championship” board drawn by Master Tulong.

Both Mayor Chu, Councillor Li Wanyu, and the Cultural Affairs Department Commissioner Lin Qianqi attended the competition.
