Mayor Chu attended 2012 World Baseball Classic

 The 2012 World Baseball Classic qualifier had taken place between 15th to 18th of November at Xinchuang Baseball Stadium. Chinese Taipei would play against their first challenger from New Zealand on the first day. New Taipei City Mayor Eric, Executive Yuan Secretary-general Zhen Shiyuan, and Sports Affairs Council Chairman Dai Xialing all attended the game.

Chu said that he represented 4 million residents to welcome everyone to New Taipei City in the opening speech. He wished Chinese Taipei to advance to next round.

The head coach of Chinese Taipei was Xie Changheng. Chinese Taipei would be facing opponents from New Zealand, Philippines, and Thailand for the qualifier, and play against teams from Australia, South Korea, and Netherland if they advanced to second round in Taichung.
