Mayor Chu together with civilian cheering for Wang
“Wang! Wang! Wang……”the cheering sound ceaselessly goes on and on, on July 30, the event of “ I Love Wang “ was established on the first floor of New Taipei City Hall, Mayor Chu and Vice Mayor Hou were cheering for Wang on his first comeback game, together with handsome firemen, pretty girls and thousands of civilians.
“I always love baseball”, said Mayor Chu. Because bumping into Wang’s first comeback game of his absence of the Major League for 755 days; New Taipei City Hall has specially invited ardent baseball fans to cheer in support of Wang, the Star of Taiwan.
Even though Wang appeared to have lost his composure during the 1st inning of the match, he managed to regain his steadfastness in the remaining match. Chu said Wang’s effort to compete after a recovery from an injury is highly commendable and he hopes that through this, more people will be able to better appreciate the game of baseball.
Mayor Chu said there are many attractive prizes prepared today, ranging from commemorative baseballs to lucky bags and Wang’s action figures. There can be expected to be more of such games organized in the future, in a bid to give the citizens more opportunities to forge closer with their government.
In today’s game, Wang walked the first batter on the first inning, and coming after Wang inadvertently let his opponent team scored 4 goals, which caused much disappointment among the spectators. However, in the second inning, as Wang gradually regained his precision, there was an increasingly roaring cheer from the crowd. There were even spectators who could not remain seated but had to stand up and yell “nice play” in encouragement of Wang’s performance.
In the 4th and 5th innings, Wang managed to lift the team’s morale so high that the team scored 3 points in a row. The crowd continued to cheer vehemently as the game progressed, even students from the local school teams joined in the excitement. Some spectators sitting at the back row, who were watching the game with the aid of televisions, were also spotted to be dancing while waving their cheering batons.
Even though Wang has lost the game, but for the students players, they are still in belief in Wang.
They believe that after a couple of games of pitching, Wang will be back to his usual standard, and ready to become an elite pitcher.
Mayor Chu that is always been enthusiastic about baseball and he hopes to instill the spirit of sports in the citizens through the introduction of related sporting events. He intends to start the cultivation of such spirit from firstly the primary schools by encouraging the set up of more baseball extra-curricular activities. In the near future, his next aim would be to organize more such friendly matches, to enhance the standard of baseball in the country.
