The 2nd Greater Taipei committee meeting held in NTPC
To build a prosperous, convenient and happy life in Greater Taipei, Mayors of New Taipei City, Eric Chu and Taipei City, Hau Lung-pin held the 2nd Taipei Twin Cities Committee Conference together at New Taipei City Hall on January 23. The conference aimed at 48 cooperation reports under 8 head issues, including traffic, industry, environmental resources, city development, education, disasters prevention, social welfare and tourism, and 28 of 48 case reports were well-developed.
Mayor Hau took some well-developed international cities for example, such as Seoul, Tokyo and Shanghai. Hau indicated that if the two cities want to be competitive to other international cities, the cooperation must take the living areas into consideration. So far, the twin cities’ cooperation was prepared for the future’s merging construction, investment environment and tourism resources integration. The best interests between two cities must go through the cooperation.
Take Taiwan’s tourism for example. Over 95% of the tourists in Taiwan visited the Greater Taipei, thanks to the twin cities"" cooperation and the dedication from several groups and members, such as the committees, Deputy Mayor Chen Weiren and Deputy Mayor Li Sichuan.
Mayor Eric Chu indicated that with the progressive completion on Taipei Metro Rapid Transit, the cooperation on the Greater Taipei must be more specific in terms of city development, water resources, social welfare, public safety, health, culture and education.
Chu said the upcoming 12 years compulsory education was build to disperse the students from Taipei City. Taipei City has absorbed too many high school students from New Taipei City for a long time, and the new educational policy should solve this problem. Taipei City and New Taipei City should work in complement to each other. Taipei should work as the head of sells and operation and New Taipei should provide large scale of land for manufacturing.
After the cooperation report respecting the 8 head issues, the two city mayors had made several instructions. On traffic, the twin cities could organize a better expressway system after the opening of Huanhe Expressway and Taiwan Expressway No.65. On industry development, the use of the public lands should be more specific after two cities pass some cooperation plans. On water resources, the sharing water supplies in Feitsui Reservoir should be an important topic. The host of the 2023 Asian Games is also the important topic during the presentation.
In addition, two Mayors had come to a conclusion and think that the disaster prevention and health issues should be build on the first notify system; the tourism should focus on promoting the food by making a travel package in Greater Taipei.
28 of 48 cases have been done during the cooperation since 2011. Chu and Hau encouraged each other for the great cooperation, and wish the citizens"" happiness and prosperity continued.
