Chu demands for improving the new-opened expressway

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu pointed out some problems with the new-opened Huanhe Expressway and Highway No.65 at the City conference meeting on February 5. He reminded the Transportation Department and Police Department to figure out the main issues of these new-opened roads.

Chu indicated that the police officers need to be assigned in several important local-express lanes to understand the traffic flow, such as the adjustments on the lights, signs and markings, even in the non-rush hours.

The professional considerations on the expressway are important than the public opinions, and several plans were put into adjustments through the professional considerations, including canceling some sections of the viaduct for the road, and adding the scooter lane on the viaduct. Chu indicated that the citizens’ safety was always put on the first place, and he pointed out some sections for adjustments.

In addition, there are some issues on Highway No.65, that is, it didn’t connect to every expressway. For example, Highway No.65 is directly connected to Tucheng Expressway, but not the Wugu Expressway. The connection problems had caused the traffic jam in several local-express lanes, and the government and Transportation Department would cooperate to solve the problems.

The public works like the traffic control of the police officers needs to be done immediately, especially during the upcoming Chinese New Year. It was very important to make sure the citizens feel the efficiency of this new-opened expressway.

The Public Works Department had presented the report about the public works that needs to be done during the meeting, such as opening the new roads, repair and maintenance the bridges , and light-sculptured. In addition, these public works are hoped to be completed as scheduled.

Moreover, Chu affirmed the new-developed projects which run by the PWD, especially several projects are getting more creative and well-designed than the past public works. Chu indicated that some projects were failing to the expectations of the citizens, but the PWD had tried their best under the limited budgets.
