President Ma and Mayor Chu join the planting on Arbor Day

 President Ma Ying-jeou and NTPC Mayor Eric Chu headed to Sanxia National Academy for Educational Research on March 12, the Arbor Day. To urge the importance of planting trees, Ma and Chu planted common garcinia, whose Chinese name means blessing and wealthy, in front of NAER building, and Ma later rewarded Mr. Lai Beiyuan a medal for being a model on tree planting.

The tree planting event began in the morning, Ma and Chu along with President of Judicial Yuan, Rai Hau-min; President of Examination Yuan, John Kuan; Deputy Chairperson of Council of Agriculture, Hu Xinghua; and City councilor Hong Jiajun were all participated in the event.

After President Ma awarded Mr. Lai Beiyuan a medal for being a model on planting trees, he pointed out that Mr. Lai had planted over 270,000 trees, and his act moved hundreds of industries to join the planting. Lai indicated that planting trees could make Taiwan a better place, and he hopes that the government would continue to encourage all of the citizens to plant trees.

In addition, Ma and Chu planted common garcinia, and then signed their names on the shovel.
