NTPC Mayor Eric Chu attends the New Taipei City Invitational

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu attended the opening ceremony of the 2013 2nd New Taipei City Invitational on March 16.

Two teams represented for Taiwan; the team from NTPC and the team from the National Taiwan Sport University. Chu welcomed the players from other countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macao, and Nepal.

Chu indicated that although the Tchoukball was not one of the mainstream sports in Taiwan, but the Tchoukball’s developments by the government are definitely ahead other countries. Taiwan had won many championships at the international games, and Chu hoped that the sport can be well-developed in the nation.

Huang Zhixiong, the Tchoukball Committee of ROC, indicated that the Tchoukball was also known as the gentlemen’s sport; a sport with no physical contacts, but with good attitudes and manners. Huang hoped that this educational and meaningful sport could be recognized by more people in Taiwan.

After the ceremony, the team NTPC would face the team Singapore. The Tchoukball is an exciting sport even without any physical contacts; the Tchoukball is the combination of moves including passing, jumping, and shooting, and it could test the players’ strength, speed, and a tacit understanding between teammates.

In addition, the Invitational was held in Banqiao Gymnasium on March 16 to 17.
