The 74-year-old Japanese tourist who went missing at the Gold Ecological Park was found by the police on July 5. According to the New Taipei City Fire Department (NTCFD), the Ruifang police station discovered Mr. Setsubei Suzuki at the Shuinandong at 2:46 p.m. The rescued tourist suffers from cuts and exhaustion. He was sent to the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital’s branch in Keelung for medical treatment.

During the investigation, Mr. Suzuki told the police officers that he was wondering around the Shuinandong after getting lost.

The Japanese tourist was reported missing at 8:37 p.m. on July 2 after failing to meet with the tour group he was traveling with at the park. The NTCFD Dispatch Center immediately conducted a massive search and rescue mission by sending out approximately 230 individuals. Organizations involving the task included the 6th Rescue and EMS Battalion, the Urban Search and Rescue Team and the Ruifang Battalion. Volunteers and search dogs also participated in the task. The recusing effort lasted four days and three nights.

To ensure a safety tour, the NTCFD urged individuals who enjoy hiking at the area to pay attention to the following suggestions:
- Avoid straying from the suggested routes.
- Offer your location information to the rescue team through the smart phone if you are lost. This move is crucial to a successful search.
- Go hiking with companions.
- The hiking equipment should comprise lighters, food, water, raincoats, warm clothing and back-up batteries for mobile phones.
- Inform your family members of your departure location and destination.
