Building livable City - the Xizhi District’s view bridge’s construction begins

Two new major landmarks of the Keelung River was started to construct! The New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the “Keelung-Xizhi view bridge and riverside landscape improvement construction” and “Xizhi connecting bridge reconstruction”. Mayor Chu said that it was a wonderful day for Xizhi District because the two important constructions were started on the same day, and he hoped they can build Xizhi District a livable place.

Chu first went to host the ground-breaking ceremony of the “Keelung-Xizhi view bridge and riverside landscape improvement construction” at Riverside Park next to Jiangchang pumping station. He indicated that this view bridge, unlike all the past bridges solely for cars, was designed primarily for pedestrians and cyclists, and after its finish, it will become a nice place for local residents and tourists to enjoy their leisure time during their weekdays.

The Water Resources Department indicated that there is no view bridge designated for pedestrians and cyclists in Keelung River; therefore, the Department decided to set up this bridge 500 meters below to the downstream of the Xizhi District’s Chang’an Bridge. The monoclinic tower design was employed, and a new cycling passageway connecting to River North Second Bridge and to Xinjiangaokeng River Bridge will be set up, which will increase the flexibility of the cycling route and create a new landmark of the Xizhi District.

Chu then attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the “Xizhi connecting bridge reconstruction”. He said that the bridge is a very important passageway to connect between Xizhi District and Sun Yet-Sen Expressway; after its finish, it will not only relieve the traffic flow and street view but also meet the two-hundred-year anti-flood standard to reduce the occurrence of flooding, so the river and the city can both mutually exist and develop.

The Public Works Department indicated that the Xizhi connecting bridge will be done by the early of the 2015, and the shape of the bridge will be single-arch first adopted nationally. There will be a view platform built on the riverside walking trails for people to view the river and enjoy their leisure time, which also creates a romantic and appealing community environment, and this can become a special characteristic of the local area.
