In a great boon for the New Taipei’s disaster prevention effort, a new Women""s Fire-Prevention Advocacy Brigade was formed today. The mayor presided over the ceremony and presented an honorary flag in a historic moment for the NTPC’s disaster prevention and emergency medical efforts. In his speech, the mayor recognized the passion of the advocacy group in working to minimize the damage caused by fire and major disasters. The mayor also thanked each one of the women fire-prevention advocates, volunteer firefighters and volunteer police personnel for their efforts in ensuring public security.

Mayor Chu said that since the Women’s Fire-Prevention Advocacy Group was formed in September of 1999, the group has expanded to 25 teams with 691 members in fifteen years; their hard work and contribution cannot be denied.

Today’s ceremony established a new brigade and three new squadrons. Mayor Chu presented the honorary flag to the new Women’s Fire-prevention Advocacy Brigade’s inaugural captain, legislator Jiang Huizhen.

Fire Department said that in order to raise awareness on disaster-prevention, the women advocates have go through conversational and presentational trainings on disaster-prevention topics. For the period between 2000 to 2014, the group has visited 132,582 households, and the number of residential fires has decreased from 93 cases in the year 2000 to 40 in the year 2014, showing a decrease of 57%. This decrease has aided the city government in ensuring tranquility, security, and stability in New Taipei City.
