New Taipei’s “Compassion by the Fireside” provides warmth in the winter cold

New Taipei City Mayor Chu Liluan attended the 2015 “Compassion by the Fireside” event, located at the Amazing Hall of city hall’s ground floor. He accompanied 350 underprivileged families, totaling 500 people, in taking part in an early New Year fireside celebration. Mayor Chu thanked the Amazing Hall and Carrefour for providing 50 tables of food and 350 sets of household supplies, respectively. He also thanked the community members for supporting the city government’s “Daily Goods Bank” so that everyone can share in the warmth of kindness in the cold winter.

Mayor Chu hopes that as friends and citizens celebrate the New Year, each one of us can also give a little more in kindness and aid to help the underprivileged families in their celebration of the New Year.

The Social Welfare Department reports that the “Daily Goods Bank” has been operating for the past four years. The general public, industry, and community members have embraced the program with support and aid. At this year’s fireside event, the Amazing Hall provided 50 tables of food and Carrefour provided 350 sets of supplies as an early celebration for underprivileged families. The Social Welfare Department indicates that the program targets high-risk and underprivileged families, provides care and resources, and helps families through difficult periods. The event also had various performances and entertainment; the department said that through the entertainment, the families can enjoy an early celebration and experience the warmth and care in the community.
