 Charity auction at Taiwan’s Sangchong Fresh Fish Market to help elderly


With Lunar New Year approaching, starting from today (Feb. 13th), the Republic of China National Fishermen's Association will hold a three day event, called the “2015 Annual Quality Sea-products and Fresh Fish Celebration”, at New Taipei’s Sangchong Fish Market. The mayor was invited to attend and host the fishery auction. During the auction, a basket of sea-products worth NT$20000 was sold for NT$100000 with Hai Ba Wang winning the bid. The auction proceeds will be donated to assist elderlies who live alone.

During the charity auction, where Mayor Chu Liluan was the auctioneer, the bid quickly jumped from NT$1 to NT$10000; the auction ended with Hai Ba Wang winning the auction with a NT$100000 bid. The proceed of the auction will go towards the “Caring for Seniors Living Alone Project”, and the mayor presented the winner with a certificate of appreciation at the event.

Chu Liluan mentioned that New Taipei City has five fishermen associations and 30 harbors; the city is the largest consumer of fish goods in the nation, and fish goods from all over the nation are transported to the city. The mayor thanked Council of Agriculture and the National Fishermen’s Association for organizing the sea-product exhibition and sale; here one can purchase fresh and delicious seafood products. Mayor chu said that eating fish is good for a person’s health; the seafood he enjoys the most is fish. The mayor continued that Taiwan has offshore fishing industry, shore-side fishing industry, and aquaculture fisheries; the fish goods in Taiwan is varied and fresh. The mayor asked everyone to buy more fish goods and support the fishing industry.

The Agriculture Department said that this is the sixth year where National Fishermen’s Association has held the New Taipei exhibition. The department encourages everyone to take advantage of this three-day promotional period (Feb 13th, 14th, 15th), and go to the Sangchong Fish Market to purchase new year goods; prices can be as low as NT$100 for a fresh fish. As part of the new year celebration, well-known chefs are invited to demonstration how to cook fresh fish cuisines so that the public can learn as they shop. Seasonal goods such as pomfret, yellow-fin tuna, mullet roe are available on-site; additionally, the locally bred grouper, bass, and other fishes will also be on sale.
