A Diverse Learning Environment: Mayor Chu attends Xinpu Elementary groundbreaking

The renovation project of New Taipei City’s Xinpu Elementary School (in Banqiao District) broke ground today. The mayor was in attendance, and he, along with local leaders, alumni, alumni association president, and school principal, officiated the groundbreaking ceremony. The new buildings will follow green construction guidelines by meeting 6 green building markers. After its completion, the site will provide the local community with more parking spaces, and the parts of the campus will be made available for community events.

Mayor Chu indicated that other than renovating school buildings, this project will also create 82 car parking spots and 88 motorcycle parking spots, as part of the effort to ease the local parking demand. He thanked the support of the local residents and the city council. In four years, the mayor said, New Taipei City has completed renovation of over 1000 classrooms and 900 more are in progress. The mayor added that not only is the city government constructing new buildings, but old school buildings are being renovated, demonstrating the city’s commitment to education.

The Public Works Department reported that the Xinpu Elementary project will build 5 floors above ground, totaling 64 classrooms, and there will be one underground level to be used as a parking lot. The parking lot will be open to community residents to meet the local demand for parking; the school sports facilities and part of the campus will be open for residential recreation activities. The parameter of the school will also be contracted inward to make more space for local traffic, easing the traffic jams during students’ arrival and departure times. The new school buildings will be constructed with respect to guidelines such as “Proportional Green Area,” “Water Preservation,” “Daily Energy Saving,” “Indoor Environment,” “Water Resource,” and “Waste Water and Trash Treatment,” a total of six green building markers.

The Education Department reported that the Xinpu Elementary renovation project is being carried out with strict adherence to the city’s safety guidelines. The project will provide more space and resources to the local community and strengthen the bond between the school and the community residents. Lastly, the project aims to provide the students with a diverse learning environment.
