Mayor Visits Construction Site of New MRT Dingpu Station

Mayor visits the construction site of new MRT Dingpu Station

The MRT Dingpu Station is expected to finish construction and begin operation at the end of this June. New Taipei City mayor, Eric Chu, visited the site of the construction this morning to observe progress and to recognize the effort of the workers. The mayor said that the completion of the Dingpu Station is an important milestone for the “Three Ring Three Line” project; not only will it serve as the final stop of the Bannan Line, but it will also be the first station for the Sanying Line. After it begins to operate, the station is expected to be transportation hub for the local residents and make transportation easier for on-foot commuters, cyclist, and bus riders. The mayor asked the Transportation Department to work hard to find “bugs” before the station is operational and ensure that the public have the optimal riding experience.

Mayor Chu also said this extension of the Tucheng Line is expected to complete by the end of June. The finished Dingpu Station will feature both modern designs and local culture; design highlights include natural light and bright, energy-saving “hall-gazing skylight.” Part of the construction will include a YouBike station, bus stops, and the beginning of the MRT Sanying Line, whose planning and regulation was approved by the Executive Yuan on April 20th of this year. The mayor said that in the future the public will be able to benefit from the convergence of transportation at this station.

Mayor Chu later went on a test ride from Dingpu to Yongning. The mayor encouraged the Transportation Department to work hard at identifying faults now and correct them. He also suggested that future MRT design could follow the “hall-gazing skylight” model to create a brightly-lit and comfortable riding surrounding for the public.

The Transportation Department reports that Dingpu Station is located at Section 4, Zhongyang Rd. The ride time from the Dingpu Station to Taipei Main Station is estimated to be about 30 minutes, which is 30 minutes less than traveling by car. The Bannan Line serves an estimated 15,000 people daily. In the future the Dingpu Station will expand to have 6 bus stops and 60 YouBike racks.

The MRT Construction Section adds that design of the Dingpu Station was influenced by the local technology park, and the architecture features considerable glass to convey a technological atmosphere. The daylight illumination system “hall-gazing skylight” directs surface light into the hall of the station. Combining the illumination system with the wall of LED patterned with Tucheng Tung Tree, the Dingpu Station is a unique blend of modern design and local culture.
