Two important sports competitions took place in New Taipei City today. Mayor Chu attended “Special Education Students’ Day of Challenge” to cheer on the students; this event took place at Banqiao First Sports Ground. The mayor then proceeded to Banqiao Sports Center to start the “2015 Republic of China Taiwan Regional Spring Sports Collaborative Competition” and welcome competitors from all over Taiwan.

For two consecutive years, New Taipei City has held the the Special Education Students’ Day of Challenge. The mayor said that he was happy to see many special education students taking up this challenge. The mayor thanked the parents and all of the attendees of the event for their support of special education, and he asked that everyone to continue their support.

The Education Department reported that this year’s event saw the attendance from 93 elementary and junior high schools, totaling 2,400 attendees that included student competitors, teachers and parents. Competitors are grouped into regular and wheelchair-assisted groups; these events saw the students put their daily training in physicality and body-mind coordination into practice. There were 7 gauntlet-style challenges that allowed for students, teachers and parents to participate together. The organizers aim to encourage students to develop good sporting habits through these interesting yet simple activities. The city also encourages each school to promote physical activities for special education students.

Mayor Chu then attended the opening ceremony for the “2015 Republic of China Taiwan Regional Spring Sports Collaborative Competition.” The mayor welcomed everyone to New Taipei City for the sporting competition. The events of this competition, the mayor remarked, are diverse and interesting, including senior croquet, kendo, archery and others.
