5,000 citizens run for their health and charity in New Taipei City

“The running for the charity contest”, held by New Taipei City Government and The 8-Way pot stickers and dumplings Store, was launched successfully on November 27th and attracted 5,700 participants who were running for their health and charity. Deputy Mayor Hou of New Taipei City and president of the 8-way pot stickers and dumplings store Jia- Yu Lin welcomed citizens to come so they would be healthier and the city’s development could grow substantially.

 



Deputy Mayor Hou also thanked President Lin by buying a bus costing $1,690,000NTD, in the hopes of promoting this event. President Lin, once a cancer patient, also added that it’s very important to exercise every day because even money cannot buy one’s health. Many former participants and winners showed up at the inauguration, which accumulated $3,000,000NTD in total for New Taipei City Government and The Childhood Cancer Foundation. According to the Sports Department of New Taipei City, this event was very popular and many citizens showed up with enthusiasm. There was someone from Japan just for this contest and he believed it could let him know more about the city he’s been living in.



 

The event organizers said the top male and female winners of this contest were Zhou Ting-Yin and Chen Zhao-Jun from New Taipei City, followed by a lucky draw with the top prize being two bicycles worth $20,000 and $15,800 respectively. In addition, in order to encourage more participation, a bag with 2.5kg of soy milk was given for free to every participant.

 


New Taipei City Government also wants to invite more citizens to run by hosting an annual marathon in March, which is going to be the tenth anniversary next year since its inception. It is boasted to be one of the most beautiful and interesting marathons in town.
