According to Mayor Chu, those people are like Santa Claus because they bring hope and love to those people in need. This year is special in that it’s the first year of New Taipei City after it was named last year, and more volunteers will be praised annually as the Major promised.

Taiwanese diva Jolin Tsai’s mother also got the award for selfless contribution to the society where she said after retirement she just wants to help other people when she has time; therefore, she went to the hospital close to where she lives and has been doing some voluntary work for ten years. In addition, Mayor Chu also praised Mr. Kao, an 88-year-old creative volunteer, for his contribution by showing his artistic talent in his works such as greeting cards and posters for other people.
