Taipei 101 fireworks wow the world to welcome 2012

The 2011 New Taipei City ‘s Christmas party and 2012 Taipei and New Taipei City’s New Year’s countdown saw a new collaboration between Taipei and New Taipei City in history. President Ma and, Taipei City Mayor How, and New Taipei City Mayor Chu all show up for the countdown on December 31st to welcome 2012, the year of dragon in Chinese Lunar Calendar.

 

New Taipei City also boasts the tallest Christmas tree in Taiwan where the Mayor and city’s council lit it up before the holiday. It’s also followed by a city’s prayer in Touyan County, Taichung City, and Tainan City on December 24th, 2011 where President Ma and Taipei City Mayor How both participated.

 

The 2012 New Year’s countdown reaches its climax when it’s 11:50pm before the fireworks being set off; President Ma and the First Lady, Taipei City Mayor How, New Taipei City Chu all come together for the New Year. Other performances also attract a large audience when it first started at 7pm.

 


President Ma also said 2011 was a “year with peace and auspiciousness” because it saw less natural disaster like typhoons, earthquakes, and car accidents. There’s also no water shortage seeing from our Emerald Reservoir where the water is almost full, which can also ensure there will be enough water in the first half of 2012. He also shouts with the crowds saying “2012 peaceful” and “2012 a better Taiwan” when there’s 50 seconds left before the arrival of 2012.

 

What’s more, this year’s highlight is the multi-colored firework with various directions and diversities including waterfall, flying beads, lanterns, cubes, and heart-shaped messages. Each has its own meaning and history signifying a prosperous New Year ahead. The exciting fireworks also chase away the cold and bring in more energy as the nation tries to embrace 2012 with love and happiness.

 

The countdown can also be viewed via Youtube live with more than 150 countries at the same time. It turns out to be a success with everyone content and ready for a Happy New Year.
