Xinzhuang’s Shoushan Road expansion completes, to improve Linkou/Xinzhuang commute

The expansion project of Shoushan Road, which connects Xinzhuang and Linkou and spans a distance of 1,245 meters, officially completed today (9/10) at noon. This project has ensured one lane in either direction for Shoushan. Mayor Eric Chu says that the expansion of the road aims not only to better safety and comfort while traveling along Shoushan Road, but it will also improve the traffic between Linkou and Xinzhuang.

Mayor Chu points out that Shoushan is a major roadway between Linkou and Xinzhuang. When he was still Taoyuan’s mayor, he lived on Second Wenhua Road and often visited Xinzhuang Old Street, recounts the mayor. Xinzhuang can be reached through Shoushan and Qingshan roads. Qingshan Road is wide and easy to travel on but is geographically further, and Shoushan Road was narrow but closer. With this expansion, the mayor continues, traveling on this Shoushan will be safer and more comfortable. With the population in Linkou and Xinzhuang growing, the completion of this project will better connect the two regions and aid their respective development.

The Construction Office reports that this project runs through mountainous regions and the road conditions can be quite difficult. Moreover, parts of the road can be narrow with the narrowest region being 5 meters and bringing heavy machineries into these areas was difficult. However, the construction project team worked hard to overcome these difficulties and successfully completed the project.

The Director of the Construction Office says that the entire construction spans 1,245 meters; the road was expanded in width from the original 5 to 8 meters wide to 10 to 16 meters wide. In parts, the surface area of road was insufficient, and a 254-meter-long trestle with 36 cross-shaped foundation structures was installed. The construction cost totaled NT$166 million
