Shulin Anka Culture Festival Starts, Mayor cooks with pro chefs

New Taipei City Government held the “2015 New Taipei City Shulin Anka Culture Festival” today at Jianguo Park. Mayor Eric Chu was at the scene to join in the festivities. The Mayor handed out Anka cakes for the attendees to enjoy and cooked together with “King of Taiwanese Snack,” Mr. Guozhi Wen, and “The Fashionable Cook,” Mr. Weiwen Jiang. Mayor Chu says that Anka cuisine is both delectable and nutritious, and the city government will continue to promote Anka culture and elevate its representative importance in Shulin.

Mayor Chu says that Shulin Anka Fest is in its ninth year, and every year the activities are fun and often-times delicious. Last year event saw mothers and grandmothers cooking, and this year the organizers invited two male cooks. The Mayor invited everyone to try their dishes and see whose is better.

Today event also invited local artists, such as Shu Jen High School, Alice and her Pianist, Ning Fang, and other groups to perform. Vendors sold various Anka snacks and dishes and held DIY Anka activities. The organizer prepared prizes, whose winners were drawn from the attendees.

The Culture Department reports this is the ninth year of the “Anka Culture Fest.” The festival continues to promote the Anka craft, and this year the organizers invited Mr. Weiwen Jiang and Mr. Guozhi Wen for in-person demonstration of Anka cuisine preparation. The department hopes that events such as this one can better bring to life Shulin’s hundred-year traditions. To ensure the cultural heritage of Anka can be passed down, the city has created “The Anka Virtual Museum,” which collects and organizes historical information about Shulin Anka and presents the information to the public for perusal.

The Culture Department points out that this event connects Anka and the cultural sites of Shulin, effectively creating a tour of Shulin’s rich cultural resoures. The Anka Cuisine Contest was well-attended with many teams signing up for both the non-professional and professional tracks. The contest participants all demonstrated great effort and innovation in creating their Anka dishes.
