Seatbelt fastened for people in the backseat

People in the backseat are required to fasten their seatbelts from February 1st, 2012, and children will be required to do so from August 1st, 2012. Violators will be fined $1,500NTD on the road and $3,000 to $6,000NTD on highway.


According to the new law, everyone in the car should fasten their seatbelts except the following:

1.      Passengers cannot fasten their seatbelts and have medical identification.

2.      Taxi that has children safety seats or higher sitting pads in the back.

3.      Cars that were made before January 1st, 1997 with no seatbelts in the back or drivers getting their licenses before July 1st, 1980.

4.      Ambulance or cars for children.

 

According to the statistics, people dying from car accidents are almost four times more serious if their seatbelts are not fastened. Other international journals also suggest that the death rate in the US is almost 3 times higher because a hit with 40 kilo/h will be strengthened to 30 times stronger, making it more dangerous as a result.

 

Chief of Traffic Bureau of New Taipei City Zha shalen also adds that fastening seatbelts has become a daily habit for everyone in the cars, so it is worth remembering to do so staring from February 1st, 2012.
