With Erchong Floodway remediation complete, wetlands become even more fun
After revamp and landscape improvement by New Taipei City Government, Erchong Floodway Export Weir area with its bikeways, landscape, and riparian ecology is now open for citizens to visit.
Erchong Floodway Export Weir Wetland has always been an important ecological area for New Taipei City. The Society of Wilderness (SOW) has established a navigation center at the site for hosting periodical ecological guided tours. To avoid the hazard of bikers and pedestrians using the same trail, New Taipei City Government broadened the bike lanes alongside Tamsui River with coordination of walkways to provide separation of pedestrians from traffic. Water channels and ecological gabions were also set up to slowdown drought and provide spaces for the natural habitat. With its coordinated bikeways and walkways alongside the open landscape, the wetland is definitely worthy for citizens to visit.
