Mayor Chu sets to resolve traffic congestion during cherry blossom season

The cherry blossom at Tianyuan Temple attracted 400 thousand tourists in mere one week. As New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu inspected the strained local traffic condition, he proposed a solution that involves planting tens of thousands of cherry trees of different species in Tamsui and Sanzhi area to disperse tourists and extend the cherry blossom period.

Mayor Chu said the city government plan on planting three different species of cherry trees on different altitudes respectively: Yoshino cherry, Yae cherry, and Formosa cherry. Such measure can extend the cherry blossom period from two weeks to two months so that tourists don’t have to flock to the same attraction spot in short span of time

In addition, the city government also enforces a limit on the number of mountain-bound vehicles and sets up red curbs on both sides of streets next to Tianyuan Temple. Commissioner of Transportation Department, Zhao Shaolian, said 300 car parking spaces and 600 motor parking spaces will be available for free at No.3-1, Zuocuolun (open hours: 08:00~17:30) during cherry blossom viewing period, which starts today and end on April 1st. During the two weekends of 3/24, 3/25 and 3/31, 4/1, Dansuei Shanzihding Military Camp will also be open for motorcycle parking (open hours 08:00~16:00).

Encouraging people to utilize public transportation to reduce parking problems and traffic congestion, Mayor Chu would like to welcomes everyone to visit New Taipei City for a wonderful cherry blossom season.
