Mayor Chu hosts reception for Mie Prefectural Assembly from Japan

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu today hosted reception for Mie Prefectural Assembly Speaker, Yamamoto Norikazu, and his delegation from Japan. Mayor Chu said that it is a delightful coincidence that the names of Sanchong District in New Taipei City and Mie Prefecture in Japan share the same Chinese characters. He gave his warm welcome to Mr. Yamamoto and his delegation and called for enhancing kinship between the two communities.

Mr. Yamamoto Norikazu, Mie Prefectural Assembly Speaker, thanked Mayor Chu and Sanchong District Executive for their reception. He mentioned the generous donation by Taiwanese people during last year’s 311 earthquake and expressed his greatest appreciation.

Both sides exchanged their gifts at the meeting. Mayor Chu gave the famous Pouchong Tea and the sky lantern mug set, and Mr. Yamamoto gave the special products from his local town - some pearl merchandises.

Located in the center of Honshu, Mie Prefecture is home to 1.8 million people and belongs to the same economic and cultural zone as Nagoya and Osaka. Its local special products include pearls, lobsters, and Mastusaka beef; famous attractions include the Ise Grand Shrine in Ise City and Suzuka Circuit in Suzuka City.
