Mayor Chu cheers for entrants of Disabled Sports National Championships

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu along with Chairperson of New Taipei City Sports Federation today attended the opening ceremony for Disabled Sports National Championships. Mayor Chu handed over the city flag to Gong Lixiang, one of the contestants, and encouraged all contestants to expect the best from themselves.

According to New Taipei City Sports Office, Gong Lixiang is an outstanding athlete that won three gold medals in track and field back in 2010, and she is looking to defend her championship again for this year. Among many other strong contenders that join the competition this year, athlete Lee Guanying is deemed another strong candidate for winner in jumping and 100 m race. Once a professional cyclist, Lee damaged his hand during a car accident, but he didn’t give up and continued his effort on sports.

“During the rehabbing process, I saw a lot of people having worse injuries than mine, and I have since decided to live my life with an ever-positive attitude. I have got over my past and been now living for the present, and I hope my experience can motivate many other people”, said Lee Guanying.
