Accompanied by several government officials, New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu today hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for Luzhou Citizen Sports Center. To provide citizens a place for sports and recreation, he ordered the Public Works Department to finished construction early by the end of next year while still upholding the quality of work.

Mayor Chu thanked the Sports Affairs Council of Executive Yuan for its financial support of 200 million NT dollars. He said construction for Xinzhuang Citizen Sports Center will be finished by the end of this year after construction for Luzhou Citizen Sports Center starts. Tamsui, Sanchong, Zhonghe, Tucheng, and Banqiao will also start constructing their own sports centers after Luzhou and expect their completion dates in the next two years.

Mayor Chu explained that sports centers are suited for space-lacking, densely populated metropolitan cities while sport parks are suited for remote areas. He expects all areas in New Taipei with population over 150000 people can each have a sports center by 2014.
