Mayor Chu visits Mayor of San Francisco and attends summit in Cincinnati

 New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu today accompanied by the Secretariat staff flied to U.S.A. on plan for visiting the Mayor of San Francisco, Edwin M. Lee. After that, he would attend the Sister Cities Summit in Cincinnati and meet the Mayor, Mark Mallory. In addition to seeing the city construction, Chu also wished to strengthen relationships with the cities to create opportunities for trade, culture, education, and tourism exchange.


Mayor Chu’s first stop would be California, where he met Mayor Edwin M. Lee at the City Hall in San Francisco. Mr. Lee was born in Seattle in 1952; he was inaugurated as the 43rd Mayor of San Francisco on January 8, 2012 and became the first Chinese American mayor in San Francisco’s history.


Mayor Chu’s next stop would be Cincinnati, Ohio, which New Taipei City formed sister city tie with in 1994 and has been having culture, religion, and tourism exchange ever since. This year Cincinnati would host the 2012 World Chorus Competition and the Sister Cities Summit. Mayor Mallory last year has sent an invitation for Mayor Chu and his team. He also appointed Dr. Jack Chung representing Taiwanese Association of Cincinnati to meet with Secretary-general Chen Shenxian and explain details of related events.

 

The chorus team of Lilin Elementary School from Linkou, New Taipei City would participate in the chorus competition in Cincinnati. Mayor Chu and Secretary-general Chen would be at the competition to cheer for them. Accompanied by Mayor Mallory, Chu would then visit University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Children Hospital, Taiwan Garden in the International Friendship Park and the Cincinnati Sister City Association to exchange some ideas.
