Mayor Chu meets with Mayor of San Francisco, Edwin M. Lee

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu arrived at San Francisco in the afternoon to meet with San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee. The two mayors had a conversation over economics and tourism in their cities. Mayor Lee said he has visited New Taipei City before and was very impressed by Mayor Chu’s friendly reception. This time he would like to welcome guests from New Taipei City.

At the meeting, Chu first congratulated Lee for winning the race for San Francisco’ Mayor and praised his excellent achievements during his past term as City Administrator in San Francisco. He also said he was quite impressed with Lee’s work on balancing budgets, creating jobs, and maintaining public security.

Regarding job creation, Lee said San Francisco Government has been successful in recruiting many corporations to station in the city, thus creating more jobs and raising the city revenue. Chu said New Taipei City has also been recruiting many corporations in the city to create more job opportunities. Corporations including many famous brands such as Asus, Acer, HTC, and Foxconn have stationed in New Taipei City.

Chu also explained to Lee the close relationship between New Taipei City and Taipei City: in addition to its geographic location surrounding Taipei City, New Taipei City with its twin city are sharing transportation, water, and many other common resources, forming the so-called Greater Taipei area. As the first mayor of New Taipei City, Chu said the city was facing a lot of challenges such as education resources allocation, garbage collection, taxation, etc.

Having seen the tourism promotion video program by Taiwan recently, Lee was quite impressed with Taiwan’s tourism marketing. He said he personally loved the aged atmosphere in Jiufen and recounted visiting the place two years ago when money was burning a hole in his pocket. Chu cordially invited Lee to come visit New Taipei City again when he has time.
