There are 18 schools with 255 old toilets waiting to be renovated, according to city’s Education department. The city will budget 160 million dollars for all renovations. After visiting two schools in Banqiao district, the Mayor Chu acknowledged that the sewage style toilet should no longer exist in 21st century metropolitan. Although schools don’t need 5-star luxury toilet, but modern, basic hygienic standards have to be met.
The Education Department was instructed by Mayor Chu to assist schools with necessary planning. The goal is to renovate all toilets including sinks and disabled access before next summer break.

According to the Education Department, sewage style toilets were constructed around 1990s. Problems like blockage, leakage, and unpleasant odor usually occurs. The problems could not be solved by elevated floors and new toilet installment, and hygienic problems still exist. This time a complete renovation would be made to build a new system for the toilet.

Education Department has expressed the idea of rainwater recycling system. Utilizing the recycled rainwater for flushing and cleaning the toilet, and will contribute to environmental protection.
