Mayor Chu promotes effective measures to lower suicide rate

New Taipei City Mayor Chu attends the 2012 International Suicide Prevention Conference where he discusses the reasons for which people commit suicide these days and tries to promote more effective measures to prevent suicide rate from increasing in the future. Several established scholars are also present and willing to give their advice for reference.

Mayor Chu also mentions that family issues are one of the most important considerations because they affect not only our society, but also the community, neighborhood, and even schools that revolve around our lives. Therefore, more actions should be taken to prevent more suicide victims in the future.

Before the conference starts, Mayor Chu also awards several wholesale and chain markets for not selling charcoal on the shelves. He also thanks Health, Water, Worker’s, Agricultural, Economic, Fire Safety, Traffic, and Social Bureaus for their cooperation aimed at decreasing suicide rate.

Health Bureau Chief Lin Sheren also adds that the newly “charcoal not sold on the shelves” has been around since this May with the emphasis placed on asking potential charcoal buyers to ensure their mental stability by Psychiatrists. For the upcoming Mid Autumn Festival BBQ celebration, charcoal will be sold in bags in stores from September 1st to 30th only.
