Mayor Chu invites everyone to visit the north coast for sweet potato festival

The 2010 New Taipei City sweet potato festival is about to kick off. Mayor of New Taipei City, Eric Chu today at a special press conference presented the sweet potatoes produced in New Taipei City, calling for people to visit the north coast to join the fun at the Sweet Potato Festival.

Pointing out that nutrient-rich soil breeds especially sugary and delicious sweet potatoes, Mayor Chu introduced the sweet potatoes produced in Sanzhi, Jinshan, and Wanli. The three places, as he reasoned, are all abundant in rich soils, and the sweet potatoes they produced are considered the finest in terms of size, taste, and nutrition. Chu also shared his love for the yellow-fleshed sweet potatoes, especially the sweet potato rice congee.

According to Mayor Chu, the officials would host the sweet potato festival on August 25th and 26th at the 41.86K sign of Jinshan Provincial Highway 2 and a series of sweet potato sales at the exit 1 plaza of Fuzhong metro station from August 31 to September 2nd. The Agriculture Department and Jinshan District Office would also co-organize a daytrip at the north coast.

Today’s press conference started with Shulaibao (a kind of Chinese Rap) performance by students from Ziqiang Elementary School. For the sweet potato festival, the Agriculture Department would organize activities such as sweet potato digging, sweet potato baking with traditional Chinese oven, lottery competitions, a sketching contest, singing and dancing performances, etc. For more information, please log on to the official website of sweet potato festival:
