Mayor Chu meets with delegates from Baja Verapaz, Republic of Guatemala

 New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu today met with delegates from Baja Verapaz, Republic of Guatemala, exchanging many ideas on city administration. To further stimulate a cooperative, friendly relationship, Mario Santiago Linares Garcia, head of the delegates and 1st Deputy Speaker of Guatemala Congress, also invited Mayor Chu to visit Guatemala in the future.

 

In the meeting, Mayor Chu introduced to Guatemalan delegates the current state of New Taipei City, where it has undergone administration upgrade to become the biggest municipality in Taiwan, boasting many industries and tourism attractions. Mr. Linares Garcia said it was a great experience to exchange ideas on city administration such as education, health care, and environmental protection with Mayor Chu.

 

Speaking that Guatemala has always been an important friendly ally to Taiwan, Mayor Chu said New Taipei City would continue supporting many cooperation projects on agriculture, education, culture, and trade between the two countries.

 

Mr. Linares Garcia also expressed his appreciation for the friendly relationship established between Taiwan and Guatemala. He especially would like to thank Ambassador Sun Dacheng for his effort in promoting partnership between the two countries.

 

Unlike most other delegates coming to Taiwan for the first time, the international PR counselor, Xiomara Malissa Gomez Romirez, had her fourth time visiting Taiwan. Mayor Chu especially marveled at her fluent Chinese.


A total of 10 delegates from Baja Verapaz, Guatemala visited New Taipei City today. In addition to Mr. Linares Garcia, other prominent members of the delegate team included Department leader Mr. Rafael Mayen Guzman and a mayor of municipality in Baja Verapaz Department. After meeting Mayor Chu at New Taipei City Government, the delegates moved on to visit Council of Agriculture, Environmental protection Bureau, Tourism Bureau of Transportation Ministry, Taiwan High Speed Railway Corporation, and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation
