Chinese Yam Festival in Shuangxi will start in October

 Known as “the garden of New Taipei City”, Shuangxi District not only hosts great views of flowers and mountains but also produce the best Chinese yams in Taiwan. To promote local special industries and tourism, New Taipei City Government would host a series of events in Shuangxi for the upcoming Chinese Yam Festival in October. These events include Chinese Yam recipe exposition, DIY Chinese Yam workshop, guided tours, etc. new Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu would like to invite everyone to visit Shuangxi to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery as well as the tasty Chinese yams.

 

The press conference for 2012 Shunagxi Chinese Yam Festival is held at the west plaza on 1st floor of FE21 Department Store today. At the conference, Mayor Chu with several officials presided over the opening ceremony for Chinese Yam Festival. Chu praised that Chinese yams produced in Shuagxi – widely deemed the best in Taiwan and second best in the world – make great recipes such as stir-fried dishes, salads, soups, and desserts.

 

In addition to its local special industries, Shunagxi is also known for its beautiful natural scenery. During the Chinese Yam Festival, the officials would organize two different guided tours, charging NT$599 and NT$399 respectively. Officials would only accept up to 900 customers throughout the festival time.

 


Also at the press conference were many vendors set up by the local restaurants, hotels, and food companies in Shunagxi. Mayor Chu visited all vendors to taste their recipes and was much admired by the quality of food. Presents such as Chinese yam moon cakes and Chinese yam cookies are also available for order.
