Mayor Chu participates in the Golden Autumn Earth Day

On Golden Autumn Earth Day, New Taipei City Government and Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan coordinated a volunteer cleaning event at Zhonghe. Mayor of New Taipei City, Eric Chu and Minister of Environmental Protection Administration, Stephen Shen both attended the event today.

Led by Mayor Chu and Minister Shen, 700 volunteer cleaners declaimed their commitment to make their living environment “cleaner than in Japan and on-par with in Swiss.” They then patrolled down the street along Zhonghe Junior High School, cleaning every lane and corner.

According to Minister Shen, the Environmental Protection Administration has been promoting the idea of “Autumn Cleaning Season” since four years ago, launching all kinds of campaigns every year from September to November in hope for arousing citizens’ environmental awareness.

Environmental Protection Department of New Taipei City Government reported that today’s volunteer cleaning event incorporated efforts not only from the government but also from schools, villages and communities. Through actively participating in the event, citizens could gain hands-on experience of how cleaners work hard to keep their streets clean and learn to cherish their living environments. Officials hope that through this event they could observe less littering and vandalism done by citizens in the future.
