Mayor Chu Speaks for Business Expansion

The closing ceremony of the 2nd New Taipei City Enterprise and Industrial Economy School took place yesterday with a total attendance of 361 people. Mayor Chu, the principal of the school, encouraged all students to work harder to break through difficulties and challenges in a time of business transformation.

Mayor Chu read an article commenting that economic recession of Taiwan was due to the open market strategy. He pointed out that the trend of globalization would of course have certain impact on industries in Taiwan, yet it offered opportunities for entrepreneurs to introduce themselves to the world.

Mayor Chu said that low-cost production and pay cut policy were not the right approaches today. Mayor Chu explained that the entrepreneurs in Taiwan should extend their businesses to edges of the smiling curve, i.e., R&D and branding, which would help to expand market and increase profits.

Nai-Yi Liu, a student representative and the front man of Medicold Technology Co. Ltd, had been peeved at lack of supports from governments before enrolling in the school. He now regrets that he had missed assistance and resources from governments after participating in several lectures.

Liu likes case study courses because he can learn reasons for failure from others. He said the school enlightened students and he encouraged his colleagues to keep studying and to establish self-confidence.

Finally Liu said that he appreciates New Taipei City Government to offer such opportunity to learn.

The director of Economic Development Department of New Taipei City said that out of 398 students in total, 361 of them finished the program yesterday and the graduation rate reached 90 percent. The program will be opening again next year and entrepreneurs are welcome to join. For registration information, please call (02) 2960-3456 ext. 5295 Ms. Lin.
