Enhancing pedestrian safety, police hang out tickets to violators

Police road safety enforcement would be enhancing traffic safety in regard to pedestrian violation and fail-to-yield to pedestrian violation from November 1st, 2012 to April 30th, 2012 to reduce traffic incidents.

Statistics from the National Police Agency indicated that 160 fatalities involving pedestrians occurred between January and August this year; 8 incidents fewer compared to the same period last year. To address such road safety problem, the traffic enforcement would be hanging out tickets for particular 5 violations, including fail-to-yield to pedestrians in crosswalk, fail-to-yield to pedestrians on turns, pedestrians disobey traffic sign or signal, jaywalking, pedestrians fail to give due care at heavy traffic roadways or railroad crossing.

To reduce pedestrians-involved collisions, the New Taipei City Government tried to raise pedestrian safety awareness to bus drivers, elderly, students, and citizens by several methods, such as setting up handheld signs and delivering traffic safety speech.

The Transportation Department of New Taipei City encourages all road users to obey traffic rules regardless of drivers or pedestrians.
