Mayor Chu: Empathy should be a factor when processing public cases

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu directed July Public Safety Briefing this morning (7/27). He reminds fellow police to have empathy when taking cases from the public. Due to the confusions public may have regarding the details of divisions’ responsibilities. Fellow colleagues should be proactive and notify corresponding units instead of sending people off.

Mayor Chu emphasized that all public problems are government problems regardless of departments. Sense of bureaucracy should be avoided at all cost.

Police Deparment reported on the subject of Gongliao Rock Festival during the meeting, including the subjects of traffic, safety and personnel distribution. Problems were reviewed and possible future improvements were discussed.

“The Rock Festival was free of drugs and crimes, and is considered a safe and healthy event.” Mayor Chu said after the briefing, “The positive image created should be credited to teamwork by fellow police officers and cooperation from relevant departments”

Deputy Mayor Ho said “Making the 800,000 people event drug and crime free is an outstanding effort by all colleagues to be on duty under the heavy sun. The flawless traffic planning is also worthy of recognition.

Deputy Mayor Ho suggested that in the future, bases of operations can be made in the event. By utilizing microwave image transferring system, the operation center will be able to handle all activities in and outside of the event, and react to possible situations accordingly.
