The New Taipei Huanhe Expressway in Yonghe District is finally open

 Huanhe Expressway in New Taipei Yonghe District was finally opened. Vice President Wu Dui-yi, Minister of State Li Hong-yuan, New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu, Legislator Zhang Qing-zhong, Deputy Speaker of the City Council Chen Hong-yuan and several City Councilors all joined the opening ceremony on January 28.

Chu indicated that the opening of the Huanhe Expressway had taken the transportation construction to a new era. The “three horizontal, three vertical” transportation network will be finished after the opening of the Highway No.65 on January 31.

It was predicted that the Huanhe Expressway would be highly utilized due to a total of nearly 2,200,000 people living in Sanchong, Xinzhuang, Yonghe and Xindian districts, and the visitors from Taipei City. The new rapid bus routes will be set up on the new expressway to make the citizens enjoyed a much faster and more convenient transportation.

Chu indicated that New Taipei City had 29 bus routes, and it was estimated to add five new rapid bus routes on the Huanhe Expressway and Highway No.65.

Vice President Wu indicated that several roads and expressways were opened based on the cooperation between New Taipei City and Ministy of the Interior. The Highway No.65 would reduce the traffic time from 40 minutes to 13 minutes, travelling from Wugu interchange to Tucheng interchange. In addition, Wuyang elevated highroad will be open on February 7.

The new rapid bus was a very forward-looking and important project, and Wu hoped the living area of the Twin Cities will get better after the new transportation.

The New Taipei Huanhe Expressway costs NT$36,300,000,000, and it was separated into three open stages. The 1st stage was opened from Sanchong to Zhonghe in August 2010, the 2nd stage was opened from Yonghe to Xindian in November 2011, and the last stage on Yonghe was opened at 6pm on January 28, 2013.

Transportation Department indicated that the New Taipei Huanhe Expressway would form as the “three horizontal, three vertical” network with Highway 1, Highway 3, Provincial Highway 1, New Taipei Highway No.65 and Highway No.64. The transportation network can not only shorten the traffic time, but also lessen the fuel to reach the carbon reduction plan’s goal.
