2013 New Taipei City Cherry Blossom begins on February 4

 2013 New Taipei City Cherry Blossom event was held from February to March. New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu arrived at Wulai Waterfalls Park to open the first event of Cherry Blossom on February 4, and he welcomed the citizens to seize the opportunities and participate in the events during Chinese New Year.

Chu indicated that the Taiwan Cherry Blossom aka Prunus serrulata is the floral emblem of the New Taipei City, and the 150,000 cherries, including Yoshino cherry and Taiwan cherry will bloom during February to March. The City Government recommended several places for cherry blossoms, including Wulai, Pinglin, Shiding, Tamsui, and Sanzhi.

In addition, Chu said that the Wulai district was famous for its hot springs, so that the citizens and tourists could enjoy not only the beautiful cherry, but also the wonderful hot springs. Chu also encouraged the citizens to go out and enjoy the holidays with cherry blossom.

The organizers of the cherry blossom event in Wulai also invited Chef James to make some Sakura dishes. In addition, the first 200 participants can get the free hand-made Sakura Mochi.

Moreover, citizens can now take the guide book of Cherry Blossom for free from every District Offices. The guide book contained several cherry blossom spots, routes, and shops. Citizens can now participate in sweepstakes after collecting 5 different stamps from 7 districts events. The total prize is up to NT$500,000.
