Mayor Eric Chu praises the student volunteers

 The 13th Prudential Spirit of Community Awards was held at the 18th floor in New Taipei City Hall VIP room on February 19. New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu awarded four students and two schools for their dedication to the society, and Chu also encouraged other students to join the volunteers.

Chu appreciated the active participation in the social services by the student volunteers. The awards ceremony was held to let people understand the working results by the volunteers, and then affected more and more students to involve the volunteer service.

Award winner Qiu Tianteng indicated that the volunteer service brought up not only the opportunities to serve the others, but also the great chance to learn something different and interesting. During the volunteer service, students could learn something that can’t be learned in the textbook, and also make new friends with other student volunteers.

“Your Power is unimaginable”, Zhang Xian-Jun, the CEO of the Prudential introduced the awards ceremony slogan, and encouraged the four award winners to make influence on the other students, making the job of volunteers fit into the society.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is the biggest student volunteer platform in Taiwan. This year, the number of applicants hits the record of 6,559 students from junior high and high schools. In addition, Zhu Yiting, student from Sanchong High school was awarded one of the 30 remarkable volunteers in the nation.

Moreover, Cao Xinqi, Hong Jialian and Qiu Tianteng from three different schools received the “Dedication Awards”. Fuying Elementary School received the “Effective Societies Awards”, and Nanshan Junior High School received the “Educational Service Awards”.

The Education Department indicated that the government attached the importance to the education of morality, which is, emphasizing the ideas of serving the others and learning with joy. The idea of the student volunteer service was to have the students experience the meaning of learning, be charged with the social responsibility, and have a caring outlook on life.
