A visit to the national treasure: Artist Li Mei-Shu

Mayor Chu paid The Li Mei-Shu Memorial Gallery a visit this morning in Sansia along with the artist Li Mei-Shu's three sons, together they savored the art in the gallery piece by piece.

The Li Mei-Shu Memorial gallery, among the three treasures of XanSia District, is a vital cultural property of New Taipei City, said by the Mayor. The City hall not only provided the aid necessary for the construction of the gallery, but is also hoping in the near future to incorporate education and tourism to give the children of New Taipei City a better understanding of its districts local culture and history.

The sons of artist Li Mei-Shu has taken the chance to ask for the Mayor’s help on the management of the gallery. The Mayor in return has promised to form a special case unit in helping the gallery in constructing road signs, routes and guides for dedicated shuttle buses.

Accompanied by the sons of the artist, the Mayor was able to savor the exhibition from a different perspective under their thorough guidance.

The Li Mei-Sun Memorial Gallery has a collection of 250 oil paintings, 1000 sketching, 300 Sanxia temple mural painting manuscripts, 200 projects draft and 50 pluses of artifacts. Operating hours on weekends are from 10am to 5pm in the afternoon; weekdays are open under reservations only. A group tour of Sanxia Temple, Sanxia Old Street and the Memorial can also be arranged under request.

The Cultural Affairs Department has announced that as the celebration of Mr. Li Mei-Shu’s 110th birthday, a series of events will be held on the days of 7/30,7/31,8/6 and 8/7 near the Chin-Sui Street Riverside. Mr.Li Mei-Shu 110th birthday memorial exhibition will also be held in the New Taipei City Culture Center from October 8th to the 30th.
