Mayor Eric Chu demands the prevention of H7N9

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu demanded each department to fully promote the prevention of the H7N9 bird flu at the city conference meetings on April 9. Chu emphasized that it was the beginning of the flu, and the government must secure the citizens’ safety.

Director of Public Health Department Lin Xuerong noted that the PHD had already announced the H7N9 as the 5th statutory infectious diseases on April 3, and whoever was suspected to be infected by the flu should immediately inform the Central Authority within 24 hours.

Lin went on to indicate that the PHD also targeted 10 hospitals to check the flu prevention works on other 58 hospitals before April 12.

As of last night 24 H7N9 cases erupted in China; which distributed along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Now the flu has no sign of human-to-human transmission, but as the number of the infected persons increased; the later observation on virus mutation will be an important issue. NTPC had already prepared about 380,000 flu capsules and 7,000 boxes of anti-flu drugs which can effectively prevent the flu.

In addition, Agriculture Department had not only established an Epidemic Prevention Group to inform the poultry farms of NTPC by strengthening their managements, but also headed to 30 farms and 21 pet stores for inspection before April 4.
