Citizens of NTPC asked to beware of bird flu

 In response to the outbreak of the H7N9, New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu visited Huajiang Dock to investigate the disinfection situation on April 29. Chu indicated that the city government had been not only working hard to prevent the Bird Flu from spreading, but also disinfecting several places where citizens can easily make direct contact with birds.

Director of Agriculture Department (AD) Liao Rongjing indicated that the birds will gathered around the following areas, including Erzhong Floodway, Huajiang Bridge and Chenglu Bridge etc. Liao went on to say that the department will at least disinfect these areas two times a week, hoping that the bird-watchers can watch the birds in long distance instead of direct contact or feeding. Whoever feeds the birds and cause some environmental pollution will be fined NT$1,200 to NT$6,000.

Chu noted that, the government will give a heads up to whomever making a direct contact with the birds in the first place, and the ticket will be given if the citizens continuously keeping direct contact with the birds.

In addition, the city government had targeted 132 registered live poultry stalls and other unregistered ones, in order to implement the upcoming policy from the central government, which is to ban the slaughter of live poultry. Moreover, the ban policy will be launched on May 17, and due to that time; the government will also followed the measures from the central government, and give subsidies to those legal live poultry stalls.

Chu demanded AD to target the under-bridge area for disinfection, which is the place where birds perched on.

Currently, the Agriculture Department had transferred 323 habitant samples for examination; besides the 25 of 323 cases were under examination, other 298 samples were all showed in negative results.

Liao convey the message to remind several things to the citizens, including: always remembered to wash your hands; the meat products should be well-cooked; citizens can make “home-made bleach” by adding 100ml bleach and 900ml water; Finally, citizens also need to make a good health management.
