Construction for a community center at Taiping Village, Linkou District starts

New Taipei City Government hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for a community center construction at Taiping Village, Linkou District on 9/23/2013, and New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu, the Member of Parliament Wu Yusheng, New Taipei City Council Members Cai Shujun and Lai Qiumei all attended this occasion. Chu indicated that the center would occupy about 297 square meters, and he hoped it could be completed very soon, so it could benefit 5000 local residents earlier.

Chu said that there were 1700 residents at Taiping Village, and along with Reiping Village, Jiabao Village and Xiagu Village, Bali District, the total local population would be around 5000 people. Once the construction was finished, it could offer Linkou District’s shoreline Villages space for various purposes such as entertainment, education and arts & culture.
Lin Yaochang, the District Executive of Linkou District, indicated that the place which the center occupied located next to Tai No.15 West Coast Highway was called Nanwantou by the locals, and Nanwantou has three characteristics. The first was that there were many historical and cultural sites found there between Paleolithic period and Japanese Colonial period, and a Literature and Culture professional Zhang Xinfu established Nanwantou Literature and Culture Workshop in the 90s. The second was that the massive restoration for Taiwanese lily was very successful. The third was that Taiping Coastal Ecological trail was constructed with a length of 2.53 kilometers, and was funded with landfill rakeback, the first kind in Taiwan.

Jiang Junting, the Director General of the Civil Affairs Department, said that once the center was finished, many cultural and arts events could be hosted here. Moreover, by combining the center with the trail, Linkou Thermal Power Plant, Pa-Li International Golf Course and Linkou’s west coast shoreline’s view, an excellent rest stop could be formed for cyclists and visitors.
